It is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic and incombustible stable gas at normal temperature and pressure. At 20 ℃ and 0.1 MPa, its density is 6.0886kg/m3, about 5 times the density of air. The molecular structure of sulfur hexafluoride is octahedral, with small bonding distance and high bonding energy, so its stability is very high. When the temperature is not more than 180 ℃, it is similar to electrical structural materials and nitrogen. It is a new generation of ultra-high voltage insulation medium material that can be used for the smelting and casting processes of non-ferrous metals, as well as for the degassing and purification of aluminum and its alloy melts. It is mainly used for arc extinguishing in high-voltage switches, as an insulation material in large capacity transformers and high-voltage cables, and can also be used as a gas insulator for electronic equipment and radar waveguides.
